About me
“Well, now what about that Leonie Theissen?”
How I like to work
I’ve been working in the creative field for almost 20 years now. What a journey, and do standards have changed since! Which is thrilling because I love to keep up to date, my brain on the move and my neurons firing.
The more I’ve been drinking up design skills, the more I realised that I’m not quite satisfied with only making things pretty. Sure, an aesthetic is important to tell the right story. But what’s at least equally as vital is:
- knowing about your subject matter,
- knowing about your target audience,
- having clear strategic goals and
- using data and sound verification methods to constantly evolve and improve.
Improve not just on overall performance, but also for sticking the landing when it comes to meeting user needs. Because, let’s face it, who places trust in a brand that makes a wobbly landing?
Human to human
For this I value more than anything an empathy-driven approach and an inclusive mindset. As soon as we stop making assumptions about a mythical “normal user” but design for all needs and circumstances, we can truly give every user, every customer the best possible experience with a brand.
Lastly, I see a good brand experience very much like a satisfying learning journey. You raise awareness, speak to emotions, you deliver a great story that stays with the user and you remain consistent in your identity to build a relationship of trust.
That’s how I like to work. What else is there to know?

Side projects
Currently I’m also working on small passion projects with and for friends.
An example is the evolution of the wonderful browser-based game “Barrieria” conceived by Olivia Richter. This is a fun way to flex my illustration muscles (check my portfolio for some work in progress sketches) and will hopefully be launched soon.
I also am currently working through various online resources to learn more about UX/UI and digital accessibility. Find some certificates and credentials here.
